STATEMENT OF AIMS

1. THE NAME OF THE ASSOCIATION
   
  The name of the association will be "The Okinawan Martial Arts Association" henceforth referred to as the "O.M.A.A.".
   
   
2. THE PURPOSE
   
2.1. The international Association known as the Okinawan Martial Arts Association (Okinawan Bugei Kyokai) , will comprise a friendly association bringing together by common agreement and purpose, various groups, clubs and people practising or aspiring to practice Okinawan martial arts,  and purpose to support the member groups and to promote and disseminate traditional Ryukyu martial arts.
   
   
2.2. The O.M.A.A., will be disseminated under the auspices of The O.M.A.A.
   
2.3. Individual member groups will have the right to decide how they wish to orient their training and to use the members of the O.M.A.A. Executive as a source for authoritative training recommendations. 
   
2.4. Official certification will be awarded for the attainment of skills in O.M.A.A. according to the policies adopted by the O.M.A.A. Executive only.
   
   
3. DISSEMINATION
   
2.1. The disciplines governed by the O.M.A.A. can be taught and disseminated only by officially registered O.M.A.A. teachers carrying appropriate teaching certification signed and sealed by members of the O.M.A.A. Executive.
   
   
3. LOYALTY
   
3.1. The O.M.A.A. member's loyalty should be to the members of the O.M.A.A. Executive, to all ordinary members and to the preservation of the systems represented.
   
   
4. STATEMENT OF VALUES AND BELIEFS
   
4.1. The O.M.A.A. is committed to pursuing the before mentioned aims.  Its strengths will be characterised by its clarity of purpose, positive leadership, teamwork, and a belief in quality and in people.
   
4.2. The O.M.A.A.'s senior practitioners and teachers are committed to creating a climate in which individuals can develop to their full potential.  The key to the success of this aim will be a belief in people as individuals, the generation of trust through a policy of shared knowledge and mutual understanding, and a climate in which open, honest and effective communication is encouraged
   
   
5. EVERYONE HAS:
   
5.1.

The right to know what is expected of them and the standards by which to perform.

   
5.2. Freedom to perform and develop within their role.
   
5.3. Feedback on performance and recognition of achievements.
   
5.4. Help and support to realise their full potential.
   
   
   
6. EVERYONE IS ENCOURAGED TO GIVE:
   
6.1. …a positive "can do" attitude supportive of their colleagues, helpful in the resolution of problems and conducive to the development of the O.M.A.A..
   
6.2. …a commitment to the O.M.A.A.'s  values, beliefs, and objectives.
   
6.3. The senior practitioners and teachers should be determined to build and develop a group with which everyone involved can be proud.  To do this they must commit themselves to ensuring the above values and beliefs are present in all things to do with the practices within the O.M.A.A. and the management of O.M.A.A..
   
   
7. O.M.A.A. FOUNDATION PURPOSE
   
7.1. To promote and sustain a learning environment which will allow the members to continually develop themselves through the study of the arts supported by the  O.M.A.A..
   
7.2.1. By bringing people together to share their skills, knowledge and experience.
   
7.2.2. By developing performance levels and methods of study
   
7.2.3. By providing information and advice important to the study of the disciplines supported by the O.M.A.A..
   
   
8. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
   
8.1. The O.M.A.A. affairs are managed principally by members of the O.M.A.A. Executive.  The Executive may appoint any ordinary member or members to assist in the running of the O.M.A.A's affairs.  These members may meet with a member of the Executive in order to discuss, agree and implement plans or make necessary changes to ensure that the O.M.A.A. meets its objectives.
   
   
9. APPOINTMENT TO THE O.M.A.A. EXECUTIVE
   
9.1. Members of the O.M.A.A. who have given a minimum of three years service to the association may be appointed to the Executive by unanimous vote of the existing members of the Executive.
   
9.2. Official technical advisers to the O.M.A.A. may be any external authority deemed appropriate at any one time by the members of the Executive.
   
   
10. SUCCESS CRITERIA
   
10.1. The success of this body will be measured by the quality of those who reach the      'registered practitioner' level and also the subsequent 'registered teacher' and 'registered master' levels.
   
   
11. COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY
   
11.1. The O.M.A.A. must continually create learning and development opportunities for its members.  The most beneficial opportunities are those where people are given real responsibility and freedom to perform and express.  One such area is in the responsibility for teaching a group of people at a training hall practise, a day seminar, or weekend course etc.
   
11.2. To be able to offer the members these developmental opportunities the O.M.A.A. must continuously grow as an organisation so that it can create the opening for experience.  Therefore, it is the member’s collective responsibility to look for and to achieve beneficial growth.
   
11.3. It is also the member’s collective responsibility to live by and to pass on the values and beliefs of the group expressed in the Code of Ethics and as part of O.M.A.A. philosophy, principally to preserve the arts supported by the O.M.A.A. and finally to give non-judgemental feedback to each other.
