Note: You are actively encouraged to discuss your progress with your sensei but avoid discussing or asking about promotion to higher rank, such discussion is regarded as inappropriate in martial arts. A promotion is made by your sensei based on his or her skill and long experience. You must learn to trust your sensei to make the right and appropriate decision as to when you are ready for a promotion. Without a good working relationship and trust there can be no progress. There are many aspects to progress and while you may think you are ready to progress to the next level of achievement there may be things that you cannot see or understand from your current training level perspective. The requirements for progress are simple - try hard, keep practising, be consistent. It takes approximately three to five years to achieve the black belt within Matsumura Shurite. |
