| Basic shiatsu warm-up | ||
| The following brief notes are a reminder for those of my students who have worked this procedure with me. I will expand on the notes for greater clarity as time permits. This sequence was demonstrated by Shinseido teacher Mike Flanagan at a shiatsu master class. | ||
| 1. | Place hands on tan tein - perform hip rotations increasing in size then decreasing again. | |
| 2. | Tiger shakes off water (spinal twists) | |
| a. | with feet rooted in horse stance | |
| b. | raising toes (of trailing foot) as you turn to the side | |
| 3. | Salutation to the Universe - using all of the chest and abdomen to breathe - Salutation to the Universe is the first hand movement of Kata Shinzen (q.v.) | |
| 4. | From hands on thighs - opening arms outwards to sides (on spot or stepping out and recovering) | |
| 5. | Rubbing abdomen clockwise (from observer's point of view - the way of intestinal flow) - spiral out and in again. | |
| 6. | Shake out the limbs | |
