Basic shiatsu warm-up
   
The following brief notes are a reminder for those of my students who have worked this procedure with me.  I will expand on the notes for greater clarity as time permits.  This sequence was demonstrated by Shinseido teacher Mike Flanagan at a shiatsu master class.
   
1. Place hands on tan tein - perform hip rotations increasing in size then decreasing again.
   
2. Tiger shakes off water (spinal twists)
  a. with feet rooted in horse stance
  b. raising toes (of trailing foot) as you turn to the side
   
3. Salutation to the Universe - using all of the chest and abdomen to breathe - Salutation to the Universe is the first hand movement of Kata Shinzen (q.v.)
   
4. From hands on thighs - opening arms outwards to sides (on spot or stepping out and recovering)
   
5. Rubbing abdomen clockwise (from observer's point of view - the way of intestinal flow) - spiral out and in again.
   
6. Shake out the limbs
