Do-In (Self Shiatsu) Procedure

The following brief notes are a reminder for those of my students who have worked this procedure with me.  This sequence was demonstrated by Shinseido teacher Mike Flanagan at a shiatsu master class.

1.

Rub palms together

2.

'Wash' hands - palms, backs of hands

3.

Rub the arms, moving up on the back side and down on the inside

4.

Place hands on the back of your neck and massage

5.

Work around to lower jaw

6. Do cheeks and temples

7.

Place balls of thumbs on upper orbits and massage

8.

Then move to lower orbits

9.

Kneed the scalp with your fingertips

10.

Using floppy wrist action execute fingertip tapping to the head

11.

Work down onto the neck muscles

12.

Shake the arms loose

13. Raise the shoulders and then relax and drop them several times

14.

Using a loose right fist gently tap the left shoulder while supporting the right elbow with the left hand.  Work over the musculature of the neck too.

15.

Tap down the inside of the left arm and up on the outside

16.

Repeat 14 and 15 on the opposite side.

17.

Placing the thumb of one hand in the palm of the other pull down the hand and fingers, pulling each finger in turn.  Then work on the web and area between thumb and index finger.

18.

Repeat 17 on the opposite side.

19.

Bend over, allowing the torso to hang forwards and then tap either side of the spine with your loose closed hands.

20. Move to the buttocks, down the outside of the legs, across the insteps and up on the inside of the legs.

Do DO-IN to a partner.
