The Universal Energy Our ‘local universe’ The universe as we know it comprises an ocean of energy, in which everything in all existence forms a part. When we look into the night sky, and look out from our galaxy into the deepest recesses of the Universe it is very easy to imagine that there is an enormous amount of empty space. Yet we know that the galaxies, stars, and the seemingly ‘empty’ space in between are all a part of an ocean of energy. The things we regard as ‘’solid’ objects such as the galaxies, stars, planets, every living and inanimate object upon our planet Earth are simply ripples and concretions within that sea of energy. Humankind has long felt some harmonious affinity with nature and the Universe. It is easy to feel a part of the whole, and that is exactly what we are, part of that cosmic ocean of energy. We are composed of many different atoms, the energy they contain has existed since the beginning of time, for we are told that energy cannot be created nor destroyed, even if it can be changed and modified. Einstein demonstrated that matter equals energy and that energy equals matter. We human beings are an ongoing transmutation of the energy in the Universe. The food we eat which is converted into energy that becomes part of us, was nurtured through nutrients and the energy in the earth and air, brought about as a result of being in close proximity to the sun and the energy derived from that source. We are simply concretions in the universal energy field. None of this is new, because without knowing about quantum physics, quarks and the like, the Taoists were spreading the same message three thousand years ago. Clarence Darrow once said, “Every atom of life in all this universe is bound up together. A pebble cannot be thrown into the ocean without disturbing every drop of water in the sea. Every life is inextricably mixed and woven with every other life. Every influence, conscious and unconscious, acts and reacts on every living organism... All life is a series of infinite chances, which sometimes result one way and sometimes another. I have not the infinite wisdom that can fathom it, neither has any other human brain. But I do know that in back of it, is a power that made it, that power alone can tell, and if there is no power, then it is an infinite chance, which man cannot solve.” |
